Key Cutting And Programming On Site

If you have a Honda and want the convenience of a second key, we're here to help!

Even if you didn't buy your car from us, we can work with you to get a second key cut, as long as your car is at our dealership!

With most modern vehicles, it’s not as simple as just cutting grooves into the key. You’ll need to have it programmed to match the specific transponder signal, an added security measure.

To get a new key you’ll need to provide proof of ownership and have the vehicle with you, but the process is usually hassle-free.

So, whether you need a spare key for your new-to-you vehicle or just a replacement for your current car, simply stop by and our team will get you set up.

For more details or to inquire about a specific vehicle’s key, just contact one of our parts or service advisors for more information.

Different Types Of Keys

Basic Key And Fob

This is often the simplest form of modern car key. The "basic key" refers to the physical metal blade that turns the ignition and unlocks doors.

The "key fob," also known as a remote or transmitter, is an electronic component that controls features like locking/unlocking the car.

When lost or damaged, a basic key can be cut by a locksmith or dealer.

Key fobs need programming, which can be done by our dealership team.

Transponder Key And Fob

A significant security upgrade, transponder keys incorporate a microchip within the plastic head of the key.

This chip emits a unique signal that the immobilizer in your car's ignition system recognizes. If the correct signal isn't detected, the vehicle won't start.

Transponder keys can have a basic cut or be laser-cut. The key difference from a basic key is the chip, which must be programmed to the car.

Fortunately for you, we have the necessary equipment for this programming.

Switchblade Keys

Switchblade keys feature a key shank that folds into the key fob when not in use, deploying with the press of a button.

The key portion itself can have either a basic or a laser cut.

A small advantage of this design is that if only the key blade is damaged, it can sometimes be replaced separately from the fob.

However, if the entire unit is lost, both the key and the fob components need to be replaced and programmed.

Laser Cut Keys

Distinguished by their slightly thicker shank and unique "sidewinder" cuts on the face rather than the edges, laser-cut keys require specialized cutting machines.

These keys also contain transponder chips and therefore need to be programmed to the vehicle. Due to the specialized equipment required, not all locksmiths or hardware stores can cut them.

We always suggest having this handled by dealerships, preferably those certified by your vehicle’s OEM manufacturer.

Smart Key (Keyless Entry)

A keyless entry remote, often called a "smart key," allows the driver to enter and start the vehicle with the press of a button.

Usually, owners can do so without even removing the remote from their pocket or purse.

These remotes employ advanced rolling security codes to prevent theft. Due to their sophisticated technology and integration with the car's computer system, keyless entry remotes generally limit replacement options to dealerships or factory parts resellers.
